e Don’t Wear Traditional Uniforms In Class.
We don’t wear the traditional dobak uniform in class because in our opinion they limit what we can do in class. The uniform certainly has its place in tournaments and demonstrations but other wise we don’t see the need for them. Yes, I grew up wearing them and I certainly liked how the class looked but as an instructor and coach, we can do so much more without them. Athletic development can be hampered by the uniform as well. It’s really better to practice speed, agility and quickness with athletic clothes.
Because we teach grappling (ground defense) and jujitsu, our white uniforms become gray pretty fast. Also, the taekwondo uniforms are designed for kicking and punching, we do much more than that. I would point our that our USA Taekwondo Team that competes internationally and in the Olympics do not wear uniforms in practice either.
For parents that are looking at our classes for you or your children, don’t be fooled by the full uniform as a sign of more serious or better training. Not True!!! We teach so many more skills and create such great athletic skills in our students with our challenging curriculum.
…. and yes for you traditionalists – we do wear our full uniforms in tournaments and I wouldn’t want that any other way.
