I continue to see over and over how important the title statement is. At our summer camp all of the kids have some form of technology and so much of it fun and even educational. Of course, some isn’t. If we didn’t intervene many of the kids would never look up and would never move. It says a lot about technology and how good it is.
When we force the kids to stand up and move around either walking, running, activity games and of course martial arts. You can see almost relief on their faces when they get up and move.
We’re now training in speed agility and quickness. To see their faces light up when we bring out the stop watch. To compete against themselves physically wakes them up and lets them be in touch with the world.
One of our kids reduced their screen time and learned how to ride a bike! He had a tough bike mishap and has some pretty good road rash. He has a sense of pride of the road rash. I saw how he truly was in touch with his body and with the world. Don’t recommend bike accidents but I do see a difference him. A sense of pride.
Here at Taekwondo Works we work hard at keeping the kids moving and being fit. This will improve their abilities to be successful students in school and other places.
