Martial Arts – A Great Support For Our Technological Lives
One of our goals is to develop the God-given inner athlete that exists in each of our students.
I love technology as much as anyone and am constantly amazed by what we can do in knowing real time information, connecting instantly to each other, etc.
But as in all things, when a good thing becomes too important it can become a liability. According to a recent article in Vanity Fair, the teen male now average 6.3 hours of screen time per day. Teen girls is just a little less at 6.2 hours. That is a lot of time.
Author, Yuval Harari makes a great observation about how we now connect with our long lost cousin in Iran, but we don’t talk to the person sitting beside us. He goes on to say “if we aren’t in touch with our bodies, then we won’t be in touch with the world.” That is such a great statement and a great reason for all of us to find ways to push ourselves and to learn physical language as well as mental language. We weren’t made to not move. Martial arts teaches us to be in touch with our bodies while also promoting great physical health.
